
Special Counsel
Douglas P. Mooney Jr. is a former career prosecutor with over 35 years of experience in public service, including two years as a Deputy City Attorney and 33 years as a Deputy District Attorney in San Diego. During his tenure, he prosecuted a broad range of criminal cases across multiple divisions and task forces, developing particular expertise in State Franchise Tax and insurance fraud within the Economic Crimes Division.
Mr. Mooney has been recognized by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for Exceptional Service in the Public Interest and by the San Diego County Juvenile Justice Commission for Outstanding Commitment to Youth in the Juvenile Justice System. He is an active member of the San Diego County Honorary Deputy Sheriff’s Association and the San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association.
Mr. Mooney brings undergraduate educations from UC San Diego and Dartmouth College, and a law degree from California Western School of Law. Mr. Mooney currently serves at UC San Diego on the Chancellor’s Community Advisory Board and as a Muir College Provost’s Fellow.
