Information About Our Annual Tax Institutes
Our annual tax institutes are held in San Diego and allow the entire tax community to come together. The Fifth Annual USD School of Law – RJS LAW Tax Controversy Institute was held virtually on July 17, 2020. It included the nation’s top tax attorneys, government agency officials, and law school professors discussed topics including handling tax controversy during COVID- 19, fraud enforcement and criminal investigations.

Steven Toscher ’79 (JD) – Managing Principal, Hochman, Salkin, Toscher, Perez P.C., and Miranda Perry Fleischer, Professor of Law and Co-Director of Tax Programs, USD School of Law, kicked off the conference with introductory remarks. Panelists included:

We were honored to have Sharyn Fisk, Director, IRS Office of Professional Responsibility as the keynote speaker.
During the virtual event, we presented the Richard Carpenter Award to M. Carr Ferrguson who illustrated the notable achievements of Richard Carpenter honoring his 30+ years of excellence in the tax field and his continued commitment to the tax community. The award is given to individuals who personify honesty, integrity, ethics, and compassion throughout his/her careers in the field of tax controversy and have demonstrated outstanding dedication and expertise while working in the legal tax field.
