Melanie Chan is a Law Clerk from the University of San Diego School of Law. Ms. Chan supports our attorneys with client matters before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Franchise Tax Board (FTB), Employment Development Department (EDD), and California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDFTA).
Melanie Chan graduated cum laude from San Diego State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Economics with an emphasis in Public Policy and a minor in Accounting. During this time, she was a member of the Pre-Law Society and the Empowering Women in Law Society. Ms. Chan also served as the Activities Chair of Delta Beta Tau, a Buddhist co-ed fraternity, and helped facilitate several volunteering opportunities for students including beach cleanups, a book drive for Rady Children’s Hospital, and making food and care packages for the homeless in San Diego.
Ms. Chan’s experience includes an internship at Lau & Choi, P.C., an immigration law firm based in Denver, Colorado. There, she collaborated with senior attorneys in conducting legal research and assisted with client meetings, interviews, and outreach. After graduating, she worked at Hughes Szuberla CPAs, a tax firm based in Oceanside, California, where she conducted tax research, corresponded with IRS and FTB personnel, and prepared tax returns for individuals, overseas contractors, and various business entities.
Ms. Chan is an active member of USD’s Tax Law Society, Asian Pacific American Law Student Association, and Women’s Law Caucus.
Ms. Chan was born in Hong Kong and raised in Colorado, where she fell in love with the mountains and the outdoors. When she is not working, Ms. Chan enjoys doing yoga, reading, meditating, hiking, trying new restaurants, and playing with her Chihuahua.
