The 7th Annual, 2022 USD School of Law – RJS LAW Tax Controversy Institute is coming. It is time to start planning to join fellow professionals in the tax community this summer for the premiere tax event in Southern California on July 15th on campus at the University of San Diego (USD). After two years of virtual events, this year’s tax institute is planned as an in-person gathering at the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice Center.
Co-founded by RJS LAW Principal and CEO Ronson J. Shamoun in 2016, the institute has grown into one of the most prestigious tax institutes in the country, bringing together top professionals and leaders in the tax field, including United States Tax Court Judges, IRS Commissioners, political leaders, CPA’s, tax advocates and professionals from across the industry to discuss the latest trends, topics, and controversies in taxation.
This is an excellent opportunity for attendees to learn and interact with peers and speakers. Continuing educational credits are available for Attorneys, CPA’s, Enrolled Agents and Tax Preparers.
Tax Controversy Institute History
As the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act moved through Congress in 2016 and eventually passed in 2017, Mr. Shamoun recognized major changes in tax laws were on the horizon and there needed to be a way to reach out to students and tax law professionals to track and understand how the significant changes and revisions would affect policies and procedures on both the national and state levels.
Mr. Shamoun approached the USD School of Law and together with its legal team co-founded the USD School of Law – RJS LAW Tax Controversy Institute. Since then, the Institute has grown in size and scope solidifying its mission to ensure professionals in the tax community are up to date and informed about current and proposed changes in the tax code.
The Institute’s continued success is structured around its high-quality practical presentations provided by sophisticated government and private practitioners from across the country. Attendees will enjoy open discussions of pertinent and sensitive practice issues as well as trends within the tax administration.
Recognizing Top Tax Professionals
Not only does the institute deliver excellent educational and networking opportunities, it also a provides a forum to recognize the career achievements of people who have dedicated their careers to fair and equal representation of people appearing before our various federal and state governmental tax agencies.
In 2017 the institute recognized Richard Carpenter with the first ever Richard Carpenter Excellence in Tax Award.
